2011

Back in February I wrote about 2010 as our year of medical Hell, the result of an awful case of Salmonellosis early in the year for me, and brain surgery to remove a cyst for my wife. I expected 2011 to be better. I was wrong. I went through my annual physical in July and generally did very well. But… there was this small matter of blood traces. So a lot more testing and scanning ensued. And a lump was detected where there definitely should not be one. My wife had her annual at the same time. Another but… moment ensued, with a lump detected where there shouldn't be one. We got the news the same day. Long story short: mine is "almost certainly" not cancer. I will have surgery 11 days hence to remove it. My wife's, already removed and tested, is cancer and thankfully is deemed treatable. She and her specialist will start discussing treatments later this week. All of which is not raised here to seek condolences -- we're both determined to get through this -- but just to say, blogging and being active on Twitter have not been high on my to do list for a while. My 10 to 12 hour workdays normally don't exhaust me because I enjoy what I do; medical stress layered on top does. |
